Representative Jesiel: 2018 Legislator of the Year

State Representative Sheri Jesiel was recently named the 2018 Legislator of the Year by the Illinois Psychological Association.

This year, Representative Jesiel sponsored legislation which was initiated by the IPA, and was signed into law by Governor Rauner. Jesiel’s bill, HB1853, creates a multi-state compact that enables psychologists and their patients to continue treatment during short-term out-of-state travel. The IPA recognized Rep. Jesiel for her support of this legislation, and her public and personal commitment to ensuring those with mental illness receive access to quality and affordable treatment.

“I am honored to receive this award, and to have the ability to advocate for those that need access to mental health services,” said Rep. Jesiel. “I look forward to continue working with the IPA to provide the best access to necessary mental health treatment for those that need it.”

The IPA was founded more than 60 years ago, and is the largest professional association of psychologists with over 1,200 Illinois members. The organization works to advance psychology as a science, profession, and as a means of promoting human welfare.

Representative Jesiel received her award at the IPA’s special awards luncheon at their annual convention in Schaumburg, which gathers hundreds of area psychologists.
