With the arrival of the new year comes a series of new laws enacted by the State of Illinois. This year, over 200 new laws will take effect on January 1. The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking feedback on the state’s transportation system through its annual Illinois Traveler Opinion Survey, available until Dec. 31.

The annual survey, conducted through the University of Illinois Springfield’s Survey Research Office, seeks input on topics ranging from road conditions and ice-and-snow removal to commuting habits and driving behaviors. Questions also address IDOT’s website, the state’s rest-area system and Amtrak service. 
The Illinois Tollway and their partners in safety have launched Give Them Distance, a safe driving campaign that is urging the importance among Illinois drivers of the Move Over Law.

The Illinois Move Over Law is intended to protect roadway workers, emergency personnel and every driver who pulls off on the side of the road, by requiring drivers to reduce their speeds and change lanes safely when approaching any vehicle stopped alongside the road with hazard or emergency lights flashing.
From Antioch Township: Edwards Road is closed for culvert replacements between US 45 and Crawford Rd, until further notice. The detour route uses US 45 to IL Rte 173 to Crawford Rd.

The Solid Waste Agency of Lake County will be hosting a household chemical drop-off event at their facility located at 1311 N. Estes Street Gurnee, IL 60031 on Saturday, December 9th.

APPOINTMENTS ARE REQUIRED for Household Chemical Waste Events located at the Gurnee Facility to ensure safety & efficiency. Collections are for residential waste only. No business waste will be accepted. All SWALCO HCW Collection Events are FREE for Illinois residents ONLY.
Consumers Cooperative Association (CCA), the sponsor for Consumers Credit Union, is offering students the opportunity to earn one of ten (10) $2,000 scholarships!

The scholarships are available for students scheduled to graduate high school in the spring of 2018. Applicants are evaluated on academic performance, financial need and leadership abilities, in addition to their involvement and activity within the local community.
