Statement: Jesiel Credits Rauner’s Realistic Assessment of State’s Fiscal Crisis

"For the first time in a decade, a governor’s State of the State gave an honest assessment of our state’s financial situation. Gov. Rauner is clearly not afraid to meet the challenges our state is facing head-on.

It was encouraging to hear that he is so motivated to reform our regulatory system to help Illinois businesses and manufacturers for the sake of putting Illinois families back to work, something families have been vocal about for far too long.

The governor also highlighted some familiar, and sorely needed initiatives, such as reforming workers compensation, property tax relief and prioritizing education funding. In addition, he also reiterated plans to merge the offices of Comptroller and Treasurer, which is estimated to save our state $12 million annually.

These may be ambitious goals, but this Governors’ willingness to take on these challenges is a very good sign for Illinois. I look forward to seeing how these goals will be reflected in his budget speech in two weeks."
